Throughout my design career, I always yearned for something more fulfilling and purposeful. I wanted to make a difference…
I am currently a student at Brookdale Community College as a respiratory therapist candidate. However, for the last 16 years I worked as a graphic designer. Seven years I spent art directing for the United States Army and afterwards for American National Insurance Company in Texas.
Throughout my design career, I always yearned for something more fulfilling and purposeful. I wanted to make a difference and wanted my work to be meaningful. This eagerness for a purpose followed me throughout my career, which inevitably made my time in corporate America feel empty. More than a decade passed and with each year my urge for a career change grew more intense. So, in 2019 I finally took a chance. After a lot of thought, I decided to go back to school and pursue a degree in respiratory therapy.
Why respiratory therapy? Because it saves lives. Patients in intensive care units and emergency rooms often develop breathing complications with some losing their lives because of respiratory issues rather than the illness that led to their hospitalization. If I can help someone breathe, I can help save lives.
